Technical tours

We have two free technical tours planned for the morning of Friday 23 May.... and there is a pre-event tour too (but you are responsible for your own transport).
  • One is to an award winning biogas plant on a farm some 35 miles from Aberdeen. This first farm biodigester in Scotland processes 12,000 tonnes p.a. of slurry, abattoir waste, vegetables – anything likely to give off methane gas. The farm’s pioneering efforts have shown how biogas can become a major player in providing high quality, de-centralised, re-generative energy which is used on the farm and exported to the grid. It’s a visit you would need to book a place on in advance. The coach will leave Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre first thing in the morning on 23 May, you will have approx an hour at the plant and then be returned to the Centre. If this is something that would interest you,
complete the form below. Pre-booking IS ESSENTIAL as there is a strict limit on numbers.

  • For the third year running there will be a technical visit to Centrica's Glens of Foudland windfarm. You need to book your place on the coach in advance, so as with the biogas plant visit, complete the form below. Again, the coach will leave Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre first thing in the morning and you will have an hour or so at the windfarm before being returned to the Centre. If you are coming from the Glens of Foudland area, there is an option that enables you to park your car relatively near the windfarm and then travel by coach for the final few miles. Again there is a strict limit on numbers.
All places are on a first come first served basis. We will contact you to confirm your place and final details shortly before the show. Please help us by providing your mobile phone details if possible - if you are not able to give a number, please enter a 0 in the compulsory field in the grid below.

  • There are a small number of places available on a pre-event technical tour. All-Energy, working together with Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), is happy to offer a opportunity to visit the Pentland Firth and meet with the project team who are developing this wave and tidal resource and to meet with local companies and visit potential sites. The visit is scheduled to take place on Monday 19th May and will finish in time for delegates to be at the show.

Participants in this tour are responsible for their travel costs to and from Wick. HIE will cover all transport, food and accommodation costs for the duration of the visit. Delegates need to make their own way to Wick, ideally catching the flight that leaves Aberdeen on Monday morning at 09:20. On the Tuesday HIE will be happy to transport people to the airport for either the 07:00, or the 11:10.

The visit will comprise an introduction to the project and the team. Participants will then visit the Pentland Firth and see two of the small harbours immediately adjacent to the firth. They will then be given a choice of two facilities out of four to visit. Everyone will then meet back together to review the Environmental Research Institute and what data and resource they have. Finally HIE will arrange meetings with local companies who can offer a range of services for initial introductions. A networking dinner will round off the day.
