Following a career in engine and thermal systems development, John has now assumed responsibility for TUV NEL’s low carbon technology business covering renewable energy systems and sustainable transport applications. He has been instrumental in establishing the Energy Technology Centre in East Kilbride and in expanding activities at the Myres Hill wind turbine test site.

Oliver El Korashy, Technical Director, Puurgen Ltd

Oliver El Korashy, holds a BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and has a background in power electronics and space solar power systems. As Puurgen’s Technical Lead, he has applied this knowledge to renewable energy systems to enable the company to develop a variety of innovative solar products. Oliver is completing an EngD in Renewable Energy applications over 4 years, with a focus on integrated renewable energy systems for low to medium power applications.

Dr John McClatchey, Senior Research Fellow, Environmental Research Institute

John McClatchey is an environmental scientist whose doctoral research was on urban climate modelling. He has published peer-reviewed research and given conference presentations on the climate of the Scottish Highlands, Air Pollution, Waste Management and Renewable Energy. More recently he has also used his business training (MBA) to assess the economics of renewable energy. He has worked full and part-time as at a number of universities including Manchester, Portsmouth, Southampton, and Northampton, as an honorary Research Fellow at Nottingham and more recently was Director of Shetland College (part of UHI) until he retired due to ill-health. Successful chemotherapy has allowed him to return to part-time research on renewable energy and climate at ERI. His work at ERI includes working on two EU funded programmes related to mitigation and adaptation to climate change in Europe’s Northern Periphery regions (Ireland, Scotland, Norway and Iceland) and related to that, he is undertaking research on renewable energy as part of the way forward to reduce the extent of future climate change.

Dr Jason Stoyel, Technical Manager, TNEI Services

Dr Jason Stoyel, PhD, MEng, is Technical Manager of energy consultancy, TNEI Services a company involved in a range of energy related consultancy work spanning Energy Management, Power Systems and Technology, Planning and Environmental and Software development.

One of the major projects Jason currently manages is the development of an innovative Hydrogen Mini Grid System being installed on behalf of regional development agency, Yorkshire Forward in Rotherham. The HMG is the first of its kind in the UK to use “green” hydrogen and wind energy to fuel a building and to create the largest store of “green” hydrogen in Europe.

Innovative and ground breaking projects of this sort have been evident throughout Jason’s energy consulting career. He has over ten years experience in consulting and technology development in conventional oil and gas and in the renewable energy sector, with over 5 years experience in the development of renewable energy systems focusing on marine devices, biofuels and wind power.

Jason was responsible for project managing the design of a large-scale test centre for marine renewables, which became NaREC in Blyth, Northumberland and is currently involved in the development of the UK’s first commercial Wind-Hydrogen-Electricity facility.
