Roy Burton, Group Chief Executive, Dialight plc
Appointed President and CEO Dialight Corporation in July 2002, Roy Burton became Group Chief Executive in September 2005.
Now with many years’ experience in the electronics industry, Roy started his career in the UK working with Philips Electronics, ITT and Amphenol Corporation with whom he transferred to the US. In 1994 he became Group President Electronics for Thomas and Betts Corporation headquartered in Memphis, and prior to his appointment at Dialight was CEO of Coraza Systems Inc.
Roy is married and has two grown-up graduate daughters, He now lives in Memphis, Tennessee, has his US office in Farmingdale New Jersey and he visits the UK offices of the various Dialight UK units every month.
Richard Cochrane, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder, Quiet Revolution
Richard is an expert Environmental and Building Services Engineer specialising in low energy and energy efficient building design. With particular experience in aeronautics, Richard leads the technical innovation behind quietrevolution and has combined a number of aeronautical insights to create the design. His role as CTO is focused on cross discipline technical co-ordination, design optimisation and ongoing innovations.
Terry Hogg, Senior Executive (Energy Sector), Scottish Enterprise Energy Technology Centre (ETC)
Terry graduated from Strathclyde University with an honours degree in Chemical Engineering and went on to complete industry sponsored MSC and MPhil postgraduate degrees in product development methodology also from Strathclyde.
Following university he worked in industry within a variety of engineering and manufacturing organisations focusing on improving and developing product development and innovation processes and systems.
Before joining Scottish Enterprise he developed and managed an innovation support service for SMEs for four years, during this time he also lectured at Glasgow Caledonian University.
Terry joined Scottish Enterprise in 2001 and during this time his work has focused on supporting innovation and technology commercialisation within the sustainable energy sector. Terry has developed and currently manages the Energy Technology Centre (ETC) within Scottish Enterprise. He is leading a team which is developing support activities for the low carbon built environment and is also active in the sustainable transport sector.
Kevin Loughborough, P. Eng. Vice President - Major Projects, Enwave Energy Corporation, Canada
Kevin Loughborough is a licensed professional engineer registered in Ontario Canada. He graduated from Queen’s University at Kingston Ontario with an honours applied science degree in Civil Engineering with a hydraulics major. He practiced engineering with consulting engineering firms and with the Metropolitan Toronto Works Department. In 1991 he focused on climate change, energy efficiency and air quality improvement. He has studied integrated energy systems and co-authored reports on district energy. In 1998 he joined Enwave Energy Corporation to support the capital expansion program. In 2000 he was appointed Vice President – Major Projects at Enwave and took carriage of the design and construction of the Enwave Deep Lake Water Cooling Project. He was involved in the development of a business case for the project which involved several months of analysis and detailed forecasting. Using a modified design build approach he has worked with engineers in many disciplines and civil, electrical, mechanical and tunnel mining contractors to roll out the 250 million dollar project which began operation in July 2004. He is currently involved with the expansion of the chilled water distribution system in downtown Toronto, directing multimillion dollar tunnel projects to bring chilled water as far north as the Legislature at Queens Park as the most northerly anchor customer. He has been invited to speak on the project in Vancouver, Chicago, New York, Taiwan and has visited Hawaii and the United Arab Emirates and India where there is increasing interest in the advantages of water based district cooling systems. He has made presentations to representatives of China, Korea, England, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and USA and conducted tours of the Enwave system in Toronto showing how a project of this type can be a self supporting business that is also a benefit to the environment. Kevin is a member of the Association of Energy Engineers, the Association of Power Producers of Ontario, the Canadian District Energy Association, the International District Energy Association and the Toronto Board of Trade.
Per Reidar Ørke, Energreen AS, Norway
Per Reidar Ørke has a background from the oil and gas industry. He holds a master degree in robotics and control, and for 15 years he took part in the adventurous growth of the control system company Hitec AS (now a part of National Oilwell). This company is well known as a trend setter in drilling control applications, and when it introduced the Cyberbase drilling control chair in 1996, it made a paradigm shift for the working environment for drillers and drill floor crew. Per Reidar had a central role in product management and product development in Hitec, and later in the global R&D group in National Oilwell.
Per Reidar’s last assignment before Energreen was as group manager for the R&D department at Laerdal Medical. Laerdal develop and produce first aid equipment and associated training kits. The Resusci Anne should be well known from from HLR-training at school for most of us, as is the HeartStart defibrilators.
His interest for idea management and early phase development was important factors when he decided to found Energreen three years ago.
Andy Riley – Head of Partnership Development, BT Wind for Change
Andy Riley is Head of Partnership Development for BT’s Wind for Change Programme, which aims to develop 250 MW of on-shore wind across the UK by 2016. He is responsible for development and stakeholder engagement activities across the programme.
Andy has over 20 years experience in the energy industry, with the last 10 years spent focussing on renewables. He has worked in the UK, Europe, North America and the developing world.
He lives in Scotland with his wife and 2 children. When not working he enjoys sports, reading, food and drink.
