Brian Nixon is a chartered engineer with an honours degree in mechanical engineering from Strathclyde University.

His career in the energy industries is evenly split between the downstream and upstream sectors, working with engineering contracting organisations including Motherwell Bridge, AOC International and most recently Wood Group Engineering.

Following a six month oil & gas secondment to the Commercial Section of the British Embassy in Luanda ( Angola) in 2001, Brian accepted his current role as Director of Energy with Scottish Enterprise.

Dr. Alan Lowdon has over 20 years experience of the international energy and utilities sectors, having operated in a number of research, technology and innovation management capacities with companies including Rolls Royce Industrial Power, Parsons Brinckerhoff Power, British Gas Research & Technology and Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux. Alan also led a Newcastle University spin-off company.

In 2002, Alan joined Royal Dutch/Shell as Global Business Development Director in Shell Services. Prior to joining ITI Energy, Alan was focused on helping Durham University spin-out - Durham Pipeline Technology Ltd – to position for second stage recapitalization and subsequent growth.

Alan holds a First Class Honours degree in Applied Mathematics from the Universities of Aston & Teesside, as well as MSc and PhD degrees in Engineering Mathematics from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. In 2001, Alan received his MBA from Durham University. Alan is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Graham Bibby is the Operations Director of AWS Ocean Energy Ltd. He is responsible for the day to day running of the company which is developing and commercialising the Archimedes Wave Swing.

He is a mechanical engineer with 30 years experience in power generation projects and business management of which 15 years have been at board level and in the renewables sector. Prior achievements/experience include:

  • 3 years as Managing Director of an offshore engineering business, grown to a turnover of £45m from £8m, and
  • 3 years as Energy Business Director for the Weir Group,
  • and Deputy MD of Weir Pumps Ltd

Graham has lived in Scotland for most of his life, and enjoys sailing and the performing arts.

Alan Baker, CEO - Airtricity Scotland

Alan is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 20 years experience in the power industry.

He is currently Chief Executive Officer of Airtricity Scotland and is based in the company’s Glasgow office. To date Airtricity Scotland has received planning consent for more than 200MW of wind power plant in Scotland including operating wind farms at Ardrossan (24MW) and Braes of Doune (72MW) and two wind farms under construction in Minsca and Dalswinton in Southern Scotland.

Alan is responsible for the development and construction of Airtricity’s wind farms in Scotland.
