ONSHORE WIND - BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES – PART 1

CHAIR: Andrew Jamieson Since joining ScottishPower in 1988, Andrew has held key roles in engineering, marketing and financial planning. From 1997 to 2004 Andrew led ScottishPower’s Investor Relations department, communicating with institutional shareholders and analysts around the globe. In 2004 he took up the post of Renewables Business Development Director at ScottishPower and is responsible for the company’s policy for, and pipeline of, renewable energy projects. Andrew has been a Board Member of SRF since 2004 and in April 2007 was appointed Chairman.

Chris Tomlinson is the Director of Programme Strategy at BWEA where he has worked for over 5 years. Having qualified in Town & Country Planning in 1996 Chris went on to spend nearly 6 years working in local government in the field of planning, project management and urban regeneration. He moved to BWEA in January 2002 as the Head of Planning before his role evolved to take on the full range of onshore issues which resulted in establishing a 4-strong Onshore Team dealing with planning & development issues at a national and regional level. Chris has since taken up the position of Director of Programme Strategy to head up the critical policy developments across wind, wave and tidal technologies with the aim of securing a positive and robust regulatory framework for consenting and grid. Chris continues to offer strategic political and communications support to BWEA, while managing the 7-strong Programme Team.

Jason Ormiston, Chief Executive, Scottish Renewables

Jason Ormiston has been with Scottish Renewables for more than three years now. He started as the Senior Wind Energy Officer with the Scottish green energy trade body in October 2003 making the case for wind power in Scotland in partnership with the British Wind Energy Association and was then briefly promoted to Chief Technical Officer before taking on the Chief Executive role in March 2007.

Jane Morgan is Head of Energy and Telecoms Division in the Enterprise, Transport and Lifelong Learning Department (ETLLD) of the Scottish Executive. Her team take forward Ministers’ objectives for a strong energy sector in Scotland, for a growing renewable energy sector and for improved energy efficiency. In telecoms, key objectives relate to broadband access where a range of interventions have achieved very high levels of access (with work continuing to extend reach further).

Jane has spent most of her civil service career in industry related posts. Prior to her current post she headed the division responsible for the refresh of “Smart, Successful Scotland”, the development of a “Green Jobs Strategy” and, as “sponsor” for Scottish Enterprise and HIE, issues of corporate governance, planning, and performance measurement relating to these organisations. She previously headed the then Digital Scotland Unit, developing the initial Broadband Strategy for Scotland

Prior to joining the civil service Jane completed her PhD and spent a couple of years lecturing in Politics.

ONSHORE WIND - BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES – PART 2

Chair: Ray Hunter - Ray is Head of Development ( Scotland) for Renewable Energy Systems UK & Ireland Ltd.  A number of his and his teams wind farms are already gracing the skyline of Scotland and several more soon will be. He has overall programme responsibility for the RES portfolio in Scotland, amounting to almost 400 MW of scheme capacity.

Prior to joining RES, Ray heading the renewable energy unit at the National Engineering Laboratory in East Kilbride.  He carried out pioneering work on wave energy in the early 1980s, helped establish the UK's National Wind Turbine Testing Centre in the mid 1980s and played a leading role in the UK's first demonstration of marine current energy conversion in the early 1990s.

Ray is a director of the Industrial and Power Association, a director of the Scottish Renewables Forum and a past Chairman of the Scottish Branch of the British Wind Energy Association.

Stewart Martin , Director, Geotechnics, Halcrow Group Ltd - Stewart is presently responsible for Halcrow’s geotechnical activities in Scotland and currently heads a locally based team of 20 geotechnical personnel.  He graduated in 1974 from Strathclyde University in Glasgow and has 33 years experience working exclusively in the field of geotechnical engineering. He has worked in Africa, the Middle East and Europe on a wide variety of projects for both the private and public sectors. Since 1994 he has been closely involved with the Independent Geotechnical Checking Commission for all trunk roads in Scotland for Transport Scotland, which Halcrow has held with the Scottish Executive. Stewart is author of the CIRIA guide “Site Guide to Foundation Construction “ which was published in February 1997. In 2003 he was appointed Project Director to investigate the causes of peat slides in Shetland for Shetland Islands Council and subsequently to develop management strategies to minimise the associated risk to the environment and local infrastructure. This work is still ongoing. In 2006 Halcrow was commissioned by the Scottish Executive Energy Consents unit, as part of their ongoing peat slide assessment commission to produce a best practice guide for the assessment of peat slide risk associated with planning applications for electricity generating facilities in Scotland. Stewart was appointed project director for this commission. 

Clifton Bain

Senior Conservation Policy Officer, RSPB Scotland

Currently employed as the Senior Conservation Policy Officer for RSPB in Scotland, with responsibilities for climate change policy. An Honours graduate in Zoology from Aberdeen University, I have worked for RSPB for 20 years covering a wide range of research and policy work throughout the United Kingdom. I am convenor of the climate change task force for Scottish Environment Link, an umbrella body for environmental NGOs and sit on a number of Scottish Executive climate change, stakeholder groups.

Richard Martin

Marketing Manager, Motorola

12 years of Marketing and Business Development in the Telecoms industry, the last 7 years in Motorola.  Responsible for Global Marketing planning and implementation of GSM Software and Alternative Energy solutions.

Christian Draheim

is a graduate in business and technology management with the major focus on Marketing. Before and during his studies at the university of applied sciences in Hamburg he gained extensive experience in Sales and Product-Management in several stages of the value chain of the Automotive industry at e.g. Audi, Phoenix, Porsche. Christian joined REpower in 2003 and is responsible for the Product-Management of REpowers current and future product portfolio.

Carmen Solorzano, Renewable Energy Consultant, SgurrEnergy - Carmen comes from a background of Physics and Astronomy. She finished her PhD in Astrophysics and carried out postdoctoral research before becoming involved in Renewable Energy. She has wide experience in the analysis and interpretation of different types of data. She now specialises in wind resource assessment, wind farm feasibility and data modelling. She has been involved in over 800 MW of wind farm energy projects in UK and Europe
